This checklist is only for individuals applying to the NEH.  If you are an institution, please follow the Checklist for Institutions

The registration process for individuals usually can be done in one day, but don't wait until the last minute.  Please register well in advance just in case.

If you have problems registering with Grants.gov, call the help desk at 1-800-518-4726.

1. Register with the Credential Provider

Go to:

http://apply.grants.gov/IndCPRegister
to obtain a username and password.

You will need to know the Funding Opportunity Number for Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant, which is: 

20081008-HD

Once you've entered in this number, click the button that says "Get your Credentials here:  User ID."

Once you have finished registering, please go on to Step 2 below (don't follow the link onscreen -- use the one in Step 2).

Should only take a few minutes.
  • You will receive a username and password to submit individual applications through Grants.gov.
  • Grants.gov uses this Credential Provider to verify that an individual is who he/she claims to be.
 

2. Register with Grants.gov

Go to:

https://apply.grants.gov/IndGGRegister and enter the username and password you received when you registered with the Credential Provider.

On the next page, make sure "Individual" is selected.  You will note that it will fill in a dummy DUNS number for you.  That is OK.  If the DUNS number isn't automatically filled in, cancel out and go to the web address in the preceding paragraph and try again!

Fill in your name, e-mail, phone, and title and then click Submit.

In a few minutes, you should receive an e-mail confirmation as well.  You can now use your username and password to submit your application using the Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant Instructions for Individuals.
