Medical Reserve Corps
 Volunteers Building Strong, Healthy, and Prepared Communities The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a community-based, civilian volunteer program that helps build the public health infrastructure of communities nationwide. Each MRC unit is organized and trained to address a wide range of challenges from public health education to disaster response. 
In 2006, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) was awarded a cooperative agreement to assist the U.S. Surgeon General's Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC) in enhancing MRC units' ability to meet local, state, and national needs through collaboration, coordination, and capacity-building activities. The Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC) is co-sponsoring the 2009 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit with the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP), and the Office of Force Readiness and Deployment (OFRD). The Integrated Training Summit will be held April 4–8, 2009, in Dallas, TX. In an effort to promote MRC unit leadership, training, and organizational development, OCVMRC, through its cooperative agreement with NACCHO, is offering scholarships to cover the travel and lodging costs for one attendee from every eligible MRC unit.
