Travel Management
The Salmon Field Office is in the preliminary stages of developing the Salmon Field Office Travel Plan (North Half) and Environmental Assessment. This comprehensive travel planning effort encompasses about 160,000 acres of public lands located in Lemhi County, Idaho. The primary goal of this travel management plan is to officially designate over 550 miles of inventoried roads and trails as open, closed or limited to public use.
This planning effort will include consideration of most types of recreational travel - motorized uses such as trucks, cars, ATVs; and motorcycles; and non-motorized uses that include activities like mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking. Public meetings (below) will be held to review preliminary maps of the existing network of roads and trails, to hear what concerns you have, and to find out how you would like these areas managed. We estimate the entire travel planning process will take about a year.
Maps of the planning area are available for public review on the web links provided below and more detailed maps are posted at the Public Lands Center, 1206 South Challis Street, Salmon, Idaho.
This website will continually be updated to inform the public as the travel management plan progresses. If you would like to comment on the ongoing plan and/or be placed on the e-mail and/or mailing list to receive updates as they become available, please contact the Salmon Field Office using the information provided below. The comment period for the first round of public scoping ends on January 31, 2009.
