Recreation Sites & Activities
Summary Table
The Coeur d’Alene Field Office offers a diversity of recreational sites, facilities, and activities for northern Idaho visitors. These include 18 developed recreation sites and several primitive backcountry areas with varied levels of development. Developed fee sites include: Blackwell Island Recreational Site, Huckleberry Campground, Killarney Lake Boat Launch, Mica Bay Boater Park, Mineral Ridge Boat Launch and Windy Bay Boater Park.
An abundance of recreational activities are available in the Coeur d’Alene Field Office for people of all interests and age levels. Most recreation activity is concentrated in the Coeur d’Alene Lake area which offers outstanding recreational opportunities such as fishing, hiking, boating and nature viewing. Other popular activities in the area include: camping, nature study, photography, picnicking, wildlife viewing, backpacking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and OHV use. BLM areas are most highly valued for viewing scenery, experiencing nature, escaping crowds and stress and being physically active.
Once proper precautions are taken, visitors can explore the expansive Idaho scenery without borders or restrictions. Visitors are also encouraged to explore off the beaten path and camping is allowed in non-designated areas on BLM land. But if you choose to do this, please remember to stay on established roads and trails, “leave no trace,” and “pack it out.” Be prepared for wide variations in temperature and rapidly changing weather conditions in this mountainous region. Also, be alert and inquire locally regarding wildland fire conditions and seasonal travel restrictions.
