National Strategy to Manage Post Construction Completion Activities at Superfund Sites Is Issued

The EPA's National Strategy to Manage Post Construction Completion Activities at Superfund Sites (PCC Strategy) is a framework designed to assure that remedies put in place under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) continue to protect human health and the environment over the long term. This strategy will help EPA focus efforts during the next five years on activities to ensure human health and the environment are protected at Superfund sites after construction is complete.

The final PCC Strategy contains five goals. Under each goal, the PCC Strategy identifies initiatives or, in some cases, summarizes work that is already underway to help meet the goal. The five goals are:

Ensure that remedies remain protective and cost effective;
Ensure that institutional controls required as part of the remedy are implemented and effective;
Assure adequate financing and capability to conduct post construction completion activities;
Support appropriate reuse of sites while assuring remedy reliability; and
Improve site records management to better ensure remedy reliability.
