2008 Excellence in Government Award

The U.S. Federal Executive Board of Buffalo, New York recently awarded their 2008 Excellence in Government Award to Michael (Mike) Basile of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Mike was recognized with this prestigious award for his work as a public affairs specialist and community involvement coordinator in the Western New York State region.

Mike is a 20-year veteran of EPA and a 35-year employee of the federal government. Mike was the EPA lead representative for the Love Canal site, the site that is credited with raising our country’s awareness of the problems resulting from abandoned hazardous waste sites. In his current position, Mike sits on a number of area boards and is a liaison to several bi-national (Canada-U.S.) environmental committees, and also represents the agency on a number of bi-national panels and boards specifically associated with protecting the Great Lakes. He works with numerous other federal and state agency counterparts, as well as Canadian counterparts, on a variety of clean air, land and water matters.

The mission of the Federal Executive Board of Buffalo, New York is to promote the cooperative working of all local agencies of the United States government to better serve the citizens of Western New York.
