Recreation Sites & Activities

Developed Campgrounds MapDescriptions for Campground Map

The Upper Snake Field Office offers a diversity of recreational sites and facilities for Eastern Idaho visitors, including six developed sites and four undeveloped sites. Developed sites are paved or hardened with natural materials and generally provide amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, trash collection bins, restroom facilities, boat ramps and piers.  Undeveloped sites are obvious to the human eye and generally consist of a rock fire ring and a hardened area of compacted dirt and grasses.  The developed fee sites are: Conant Boat Access Area, Byington Boat Access Area, Lorenzo Boat Access Area, Cress Creek Nature Trail, North Menan Butte Trail, Egin Lakes and Kelly Island Campground.

From world-class fly-fishing opportunities and picturesque views along the South Fork of the Snake River, to the OHV playground at St. Anthony Sand Dunes, to the rough and rocky lava plains of Hell’s Half Acre, the Upper Snake Field Office offers a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing, camping, hiking and boating.  This area offers a diversity of outdoor adventure for all ages.

Once proper precautions are taken, visitors can explore the expansive Idaho scenery with few restrictions. Visitors are also encouraged to explore off the beaten path and camping is allowed in non-designated areas on BLM land. When enjoying public lands, please remember to stay on established roads and trails, “leave no trace,” and “pack out, what you pack in.” Also, be prepared for wide temperature changes and dry environment and be alert for dangerous fire conditions and seasonal restrictions.
