ASEC Qualifications

Q: Do I have to be a classroom teacher to apply?
A: No, you can be employed as a full-time classroom teacher, administrator, or instructional specialist in math, science, or technology education. You must have had at least 3 years of classroom teaching experience (not including pre-service or student teaching) by the end of the 2005-2006 school year.

Q: Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply?
A: Yes.

ASEC Application Review

Q: When will the 2006 application be available?
A: All applications have been received and reviewed for the 2006 Class. No applications are being taken at this time.

Q: When will I find out if I have been accepted to the ASEC?
A: Notifications will be sent the week of April 24, 2006.

ASEC Summer Institute

Q: When is the Summer Institute?
A: The 3-day Summer Training Institute will take place July 19-23, 2006. Participants will fly in on a Wednesday. The workshop will run Thursday through Saturday. Participants will fly home on Sunday.

Q: Do I have to pay to travel to NASA Ames for the Summer Institute?
A: No, ASEC will cover the cost of your transportation, lodging, and provide a meal stipend for your travel to the Institute.

Q: Can I bring my spouse or children to the Summer Institute?
A: No, the Institute will require you to lodge on-base with fellow participants to provide community, continuity, and a distraction-free setting that will allow you to focus on the goals of the program.

Q: Where is NASA Ames?
A: Ames Research Center, one of 10 NASA field centers, is located at Moffett Field in Northern California. Ames was founded Dec. 20, 1939 as an aircraft research laboratory by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and in 1958 it became part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Moffet Field is in Mountain View, the heart of California's Silicon Valley.

Q: What is the ASEN?
A: The Airspace Systems Educator Network is a group of approximately 50 educators who applied for participation in the ASEC, and who will be eligible to participate in virtual training available during the 2006-2007 school year.

Q: How do I join the ASEN?
A: Membership is currently closed. This program is being re-evaluated at this time.
