FOLLOWING A RECENT TREND, many worthy studies have been produced in the last few years on a wide variety of linguistic issues. In Portuguese, lexical and dialectical/sociolinguistic studies prevail (44 percent and 20 percent respectively). In Spanish, in addition to many lexical and dialectical/sociolinguistic studies (22 percent and 20 percent respectively), there were a large number of morphological and syntactic studies (19 percent). In both Spanish and Portuguese, a great deal of research has been done on European adstrata (17 percent) and African indigenous and Amerindian substrata (19 percent). Finally, in addition to these studies which examine such influences on the Spanish and Portuguese languages, studies have been completed on different Creole languages as well.
