Grown in Japan for centuries, Hosta plantaginea var. japonica (also known as grandiflora) has enormous waxy white blooms, almost 6in long, and up to 15 on each stem. In late summer, they release a powerful Lily-like fragrance from late afternoon into the night. This variety flowers better in shade than other Hostas. Winner of an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
