A recent arrival from the Netherlands, 'Young Lady' is sure to excite you as it blooms. Dense clouds of pink appear on nearly every shoot and continue through frost. If that's not enough, you can count on rich fall foliage in shades of yellow, red, and orange. PPAF
You might not guess that Cotinus is a member of the Cashew or Sumac family. It's a genus comprised of just three species of deciduous trees and shrubs widely spread from the southern United States to the Mediterranean region and China. One, C. coggygria, is grown either for its colorful foliage or for the countless tiny stems inside each 6–8in flower head. After bloom fades in June, the stems become fluffy, resembling, from a distance, delightful puffs of smoke floating above the frame all summer.
