Welcome to Brown County...
Brown County's friendly citizens welcome visitors and provide a variety of
entertainment and tourist attractions. Visitors find it fascinating to watch
center-pivot sprinklers irrigating fields of corn, beans, alfalfa and other
crops. Western cattle ranches are of interest to visitors during branding season,
and also during haying operations in the summer. Some ranches are open to visitors
and horseback riding is also available. The beautiful Niobrara River Valley
is one of the most scenic places in the state and canoers travel from many states
to enjoy the Niobrara River located in the north edge of the county, and the
Calamus River is located in the southern part of the county. Rocky Ford on the
Niobrara River is the site of a former mill dam where water power was used for
a flour mill. Several canoe outfitters are head quartered along the Niobrara.
Fishing is good in the Niobrara River, Plum Creek, Pine Creek and in numerous
lakes in the southern part of the county.
