Three-Dimensional Multi-Scale Modeling of Mouse Hearts

Three-Dimensional Multi-Scale Modeling of Mouse Hearts

Researchers at the University of California San Diego and the University of South Carolina are using high-resolution immunofluorescence confocal microscopy to reconstruct three-dimensional multi-scale models of ventricular electromechanics in wild-type and genetically engineered mouse hearts. In this image, three different dyes illuminate various protein filaments involved in the structure of the tissue. This research was funded by the National Science Foundation, as part of the Interagency Modeling and Analysis Group’s (IMAG) Multiscale Modeling Initiative. This initiative is administered by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), a part of the National Institutes of Health.
