DVR manages the quarantine services for newly purchased dogs, cats, non-human primates and livestock prior to entry onto the NIH animal colonies. DVR manages quarantine and rederivation services for rodents purchased from the non-NIH approved sources. The Rodent Import Officer (RIO) reviews the health information provided for acceptability. DVR operates two rodent quarantine areas: one in Poolesville equipped with isolators, and one in Bethesda equipped with ventilated racks.
