ChemCam rock laser for the Mars Science Laboratory
ChemCam rock laser uses imaging and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to determine rock and soil compositions on Mars, up to 9 meters from the rover. The Mars Science Laboratory is scheduled to launch in 2009.
Roadrunner supercomputer more than twice as fast as the previous record holder
The "Roadrunner" supercomputer exceeded a sustained speed of 1 petaflop/s, or 1 million billion calculations per second. The sustained performance makes Roadrunner more than twice as fast as the current number 1 system on the TOP500 list.
