Easy-to-care-for Begonia 'Escargot' was named from the charming way its leaves curl back into themselves -- not unlike the shells of a snail, made all the more vivid by colored bands of pewter, chocolate and green; the pale pink flowers are a subtler pleasure. Like any Rex, 'Escargot' requires ample humidity, even warmth, a well-drained organic potting mix, and bright, indirect light.
The genus Begonia offers some outstanding plants for foliage. They need bright, indirect light, well-drained soil, at least 50% humidity, and warm temperatures to be at their best. During the summers, they become one of the most stylish and exciting plants for a shady container.
