- NIH Funds Eight Centers to Study Population Health and Health Disparities
Institute: National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR)Recognizing the need to reduce differences in people's access to health, how they are cared for, and the path of their illness, the NIH recently announced the creation of eight Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities. These centers will form a network of cutting-edge researchers who will work to understand and reduce health disparities among different populations. Four NIH agencies—the NCI, NIEHS, NIA, and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research—will support this transdisciplinary research into how the social and physical environment, behavioral factors, and biologic pathways interact to determine health and disease in populations.
