Los Alamos Site Office employees are now located at a new building west of the Wellness Center parking lot at Technical Area 3.

The new building houses 108 LASO employees in about 25,000 square feet, said Bernie Pleau of the Los Alamos Site Office.

“It’s great to have it,” Pleau said. “It’s nice and modern.” The new building replaces the former LASO facility off Trinity Drive in Los Alamos, which dates back to the early 1950s. Originally built as a barracks for Laboratory security personnel, the building was remodeled in the mid-1950s to accommodate offices for the Atomic Energy Commission.

Through the decades, the building was used by the Energy and Research Development Administration, the Department of Energy, and the National Nuclear Security Administration.

The old building and the adjacent steam plant are slated for demolition and the property will be transferred to Los Alamos County as part of the land transfer agreement between the county and DOE, Pleau said.
