One-Stop & ETA Grant Programs Comprehensive Financial Management Training, New Orleans, LA
 ETA's Office of Grants and Contract Management will be conducting an in-depth training opportunity for financial and administrative professionals from January 26 - 30, 2004 in New Orleans, LA. Participants will learn the fiscal principles and practices pertaining to the One-Stop system and other ETA-funded grant programs. This training is designed for those workforce system professionals with day-to-day responsibilities for financial or accounting operations. Non-financial staff are welcome to register. However, they may find some sessions overly technical if they have never been exposed to financial management issues.

There is no registration fee for this training. Registration is by fax or mail only. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Complete logistical details can be found on the following links: pdf or Word.

Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Announces $10 Million In Grants For Hurricane Isabel Cleanup In North Carolina
 U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced a National Emergency Grant totaling $10 million to create 2,000 temporary jobs for cleanup and restoration efforts taking place as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Isabel.

"The President and I want to do everything we can to help the people of North Carolina recover from the devastation of Hurricane Isabel as quickly as possible," U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao said. "This $10 million grant will create 2,000 jobs for unemployed workers who will help in the cleanup and restoration for the people, businesses, and communities of this great state."

U.S. Labor Secretary Announces Additional Funds of $442,500 To Aid Dislocated Workers in Maine
 U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced additional National Emergency Grant funds of $442,500 to aid approximately 105 Maine workers impacted by a second round of layoffs at three companies.

"This additional grant of $442,500 will help Maine workers who worked at Bath Iron Works, L.L. Bean and Fairchild Semiconductor to receive individual counseling, occupational skills training, career development assistance and a variety of other valuable help to transition to other job opportunities," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.

Secretary of Labor Announces Career Voyages Web Site
 Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today launched the Career Voyages Web Site at a High School Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. The result of collaboration between the Department of Labor and the Department of Education, CareerVoyages.gov is part of a larger, more comprehensive effort to link the educational community with the world of work.

Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Announces $4.6 Million Grant To North Carolina To Continue Aid For Laid Off Burlington Workers
 U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao has announced a $4.6 million National Emergency Grant to continue trade-related assistance to approximately 2,021 workers dislocated from Burlington Industries.

"Our hearts go out to these workers and their families. This $4.67 million will provide immediate reemployment-related assistance to sustain these workers during this difficult transition. These funds will pay for retraining and supportive services such as needs-related payments, childcare and transportation," said Chao. "We hope the fund will be distributed quickly so that these workers will know that they are not alone-- we are committed to helping them get the assistance they need to rebuild their working lives."
