Signature of the NIH Director on Certificates

All reproductions of the signature of the NIH Director require written approval and must be authorized through the NIH Executive Secretariat (ES).

IC staff or OD staff whose signatures will also appear on a certificate should sign before the certificate is sent to ES for the Director's signature.

Because the signature of the NIH Director is usually reproduced on certificates using the computerized signature pen in ES, certificates should be no larger than 11" x 17". Signatures can be made on both "portrait" and "landscape" oriented certificates. Do not mount or frame a certificate before sending it to ES for the Director's signature. ES will not assume responsibility for removing borders and frames; mounted or framed certificates will be returned to the originating office.

All signature and date lines on the certificate must be clearly identified. For example:

____________________
Date of Retirement
__________________
Director, NIH
or
____________________
Date of Lecture
__________________
Director, NIH
NOT
____________________
Date

Director
Deliver certificates for signature directly to ES in Building 1, Room B1-56. Please allow 2 days for signature of certificates in ES. ES staff will call the originator when a certificate has been signed and is ready for pick-up.
