Other Education Programs & Organizations Supported by Maine Sea Grant

The Maine Sea Grant education program seeks to improve marine-related K-16 educational opportunities in the state, as well as continued learning programs for educators. The program offers in-service teacher training workshops, develops formal and informal education programs related to our four cross-cutting programmatic issues,* and develops curriculum materials that are aligned with state and national education standards. In February 2006, Beth Bisson became Maine Sea Grant's first full-time education coordinator. Owen coordinates Maine Sea Grant's formal and informal K-16 education projects throughout the state, and she is a liaison to educational organizations in the state, region, and nation. She works closely with the Marine Extension Team to develop K-16 education opportunities associated with our extension programming. In addition, members of Maine Sea Grant's Marine Extension Team conduct many formal and informal educational programs and have valuable connections with teachers and students throughout the state. Extension staff also provide field experiences, and participate in curriculum development.

Maine Sea Grant serves as the point of contact for graduate students interested in marine-related fellowships such as the Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, and the NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship. Maine Sea Grant also supports graduate and undergraduate students working with faculty on a wide range of marine-related research projects.
