Nitrogen Deposition Study

The nitrogen deposition study is a long-term study in which forest and successional plots are fertilized to simulate increased nitrogen deposition. Nitrogen is applied at a rate of 1g N/m²/y (1N) to a 10 x 10m plot and at a rate of 3 g N/m²/y (3N) to a 2 x 2m plot at each of nine sites. The N is added as an NH₄NO₃solution distributed in 3 doses during the growing season, beginning in April and ending in November. The nine sites include 3 replicates each of deciduous forest (DF), coniferous forest (CF), and successional fields (SF). Click on the image for aprintable map of the study area.
