| Public-Private Partnerships in the Irrigation Sector For quite some time Governments and irrigation agencies have been considering the potential and opportunities for the involvement of the private sector in the irrigation sector. With the development of the public sector in some of the countries, private sector can play an important role in the management of the irrigation sector. The involvement of the private sector is sensitve in countires where irrigation is in the nature of subsistence farming. Government oversight is required since massive investments have already gone into the public sector. The involvement of the private sector can at best be in the nature of a public-private partnership. The purpose of this discussion is to elicit views on the challenges and potential for public-private partnerships in the irrigaiton sector. |
