A new portal for news about U-M research and scholarship has been established by the Vice President for Research and the Vice President for Communications. The site provides links to recent news as well as research news pages at U-M schools, colleges and other units.

Professor Farnam Jahanian has been named the 2009 Distinguished University Innovator. He is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science as well as founder in 2000 of Arbor Networks. The award ceremony was held April 1, 2009.
The Science and Technology Foundation of Japan has presented Professor David E. Kuhl, M.D. with the 2009 Japan Prize for technological integration of medical science and engineering. The Japan Prize honors individuals for original and outstanding achievements that advance the frontiers of knowledge and serve the cause of peace and prosperity for humankind.
U-M must continue to plan for research growth, due in large part to the University's potential purchase of the former Pfizer site in northeastern Ann Arbor. If completed, the purchase will transform the research landscape at U-M.

The University of Michigan and Fraunhofer announce a collaboration to fund research into transportation fuel alternatives. The $2.2M program will award seed money grants of up to $200,000 annually for two years to projects that explore alternative energy innovations for transportation.
Trend lines for turnaround times of IRB-Med and IRB-BehavSci protocol review continue to show improvement since the 4th quarter of 2007. Full data on IRB processing is available at the link below, and a summary report for 2007-08 is being distributed across campus.
In April, 2008, UM Research Faculty were surveyed about their career experiences and satisfaction, sponsored by OVPR and the Research Policies Committee.
