Library Celebrates 10 Years of 'Promises Made, Promises Kept'
January 2009 marks the 10th year of transformation for Solano County's libraries and the eighth of a penny sales tax that made it all possible. With the motto, "Promises Made, Promises Kept," the Library commemorates the 1998 sales tax vote and the ways the Library has delivered on the promises made a decade ago. According to Ann Cousineau, Director of Library Services, “Those of us who use and work in our libraries are grateful every day to the voters of Solano County and the value they place in their public library.”

News ImageCounty launches community stalking awareness campaign
Solano County joins communities across the country in observing the sixth annual National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime that affects 1.4 million victims a year.  "By learning more about stalking, our communities can support victims and work to eliminate this crime of intimidation and violence. If more people can recognize stalking, we have a better chance to hold offenders accountable and prevent tragedies," said Supervisor Barbara Kondylis.

County lends hand in free food giveaway

County employees will be part of an army of volunteers bringing free food to the homeless and hungry in Solano County. The vendors at the 2009 San Francisco Fancy Food Show are donating at least 100,000 pounds of food when the show concludes.  The show brings tons of food and beverage products to entice the thousands of retailers, restaurateurs and distributors with what’s new in the industry. The Fancy Food Show’s tradition is the vendors bring extra food to donate to a local community, and this year that community is Solano County.

Volunteers needed to make difference for victims of domestic violence
An estimated 5.3 million cases of domestic violence occur annually among U.S. women 18 and older, resulting in nearly 2 million injuries. "Many of these women are in dire need of support as they seek safety and navigate the complicated legal system. With the help of volunteers, we can make a difference locally," said Carolyn Thomas-Wold from the Solano County Office of Family Violence Prevention.
