Freely Oriented Portable Superconducting Magnet
Abstract
A high field superconducting magnet which can be operated in any orientation by a single person due to its low weight and size. The design can accommodate both low and high temperature superconductors.
Application(s)
- Field deployable MRI/NMR
- Magnetic coupling for machining chucks or specialized lifting devices
- Magnetization of ferritic objects
- Linear actuators
- Portable MRI/NMR for clinics, doctor's office, NDE applications
- Field deployed magnetic separation
Advantages
- Minimal weight (man-portable)
- Freely orientable
- Magnet decoupled from power supply, cryogen
- High magnetic field
- Low thermal conductivity
