"Keypath," Generation and Exchange of Cyptographic Keys Using Path Length Noise

Abstract
A means for securely communicating information between two points that is applicable to both free-space optical communication and some radio frequency communication.  The technique permits the cryptographic key to be sent with the message while simultaneously preventing eavesdropping.  The security of the technique rivals quantum cryptography in some implementations, but with much simpler, cheaper, and more rugged equipment.

Application(s)

  • Free-space (non-fiber) optical communication
  • Satellite to ground secure communication

Advantages

  • Securitity
  • Adaptability to existing infrastructure
