Web-based Multi-channel Analyzer (WebMCA)

Abstract
LANL scientists have developed novel systems and methods for processing and distributing spectrographic pulse data, specifically, a platform independent and highly customizable multi-channel analyzer that conveniently acquires, processes, and distributes spectrographic pulse data over a computer network. Radioactive materials produce pulses at a very high rate, up to 10,000 pulses per second and capturing each of these is critical to accurate characterization of radioactive substances. Developers of pulse-mode detectors believed that general-purpose operating systems were not capable of capturing pulse data at such rates, therefore these detectors use special-purpose software running on application-specific operating system software. Demand of high capture rates also precluded development of processing and distribution capabilities of these devices. As a result, conventional systems operate with proprietary closed architectures preventing cross-communication and customization and severely limiting functionality. For example, it is difficult to interface with these systems to enable distribution of spectrographic data via computer network.Learn More:
