Superconducting Current Controller

Abstract
This device builds on an earlier disclosure from the inventor, which was already patented by someone else.  In this invention, he uses basic materials properties of high temperature superconductors to create a current controller for high voltage distribution circuits which would ensure that power will continue to flow via another route to the specified places, even if faced with a short circuit caused by a tree on a power line, lightning, etc.

Application(s)

  • Power/Utilities

Advantages

  • Cheaper than other methods using semiconductors, by anywhere from an order of magnitude to ½.
  • Increased reliability
