Buffer Layers On Metal Alloy Substrates For Superconducting Tapes

Abstract
Los Alamos National Laboratory has developed a single layer buffer material which high critical current density superconducting films on metal are constructed upon. This buffer is intended to be used where a biaxially oriented layer of MgO by ion beam assisted deposition is used as a template.

Advantages
Single layer simplifies production Higher deposition rate reduces processing time Good structural and chemical compatibility with MgO Smooth surface morphology which improves the coverage of materials
