Improved Coal Gasifier Utilizing Dielectric Barrier Nonthermal Plasma Device

Abstract
This LANL invention is a device that employs electrical discharges/non-thermal plasmas, which themselves can play a catalytic role and promote gasification reactions. The use of non-thermal plasmas improves the conventional coal gasifier with a rapid conversion rate under a reasonable set of temperature and pressure conditions.

Application(s)
• Coal gasifiers
• Biomass gasifiers
• Other carbonaceous feedstock gasifiers

Advantages
• High electron number density
• Low gas temperatures
• Reasonable pressures
• Broad, dynamic operating range
• Design flexibility

IP Status: Available both Exclusively and Non Exclusively

Commercialization Strategy: We are seeking to license this technology either non-exclusively or exclusively for specific field of use. We would also entertain offers to work collaboratively in the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA). Any agreement contract is expected to include funds-in to the Laboratory.
