Compact Electron Multiplier
Abstract
This novel design reduces the size, cost, and fragility of any device that requires an electron multiplier and can be scaled to produce larger displays.
Application(s)
- Field Emission Displays (FEDs)
- Solid State Lighting (based on FEDs)
- Night Vision Devices
- Phototubes
- Photon Detectors
- Mass Spectrometer Detectors
Advantages
For field emission displays and lighting (FEDs):
- the only feasible solution available to extend emitter life by reducing the required emitter current
- compact amplifier doesn't appreciably increase display thickness
- scalable to produce large displays
- inexpensive, simple construction
- robust, shock-resistant
- high-resolution For night vision devices:
- more robust, less expensive and scalable to larger displays than conventional microchannel plate amplifiers ·For phototubes, photon detectors, mass spectrometer detectors:
- cheaper, more compact, more robust, scalable to larger displays, lower power required, increased resolution
IP Status: Available for Exclusive or Non-Exclusive Licensing
Commercialization Strategy: --Field emission displays (FEDs)
--Solid-state lighting (based on FEDs)
--Night vision devices, phototubes, photon detectors, mass spectrometer detectors
Stage of Development: Prototype 15-mm-thick, 4-stage multiplier demonstrated gains in output current >14X
