Methods and Optical Fibers that Decrease Pulse Degradation Resulting from Random Chromatic Dispersion
Abstract
Error rates in fiber optic transmissions are reduced by compensating for the effects of chromatic dispersion along the fiber. Periodic pinning or quasipinning of the accumulated random dispersion in the fiber is shown to stabilize a signal. This can be achieved by measuring the accumulated dispersion of a fiber span and inserting an appropriate dispersion compensating fiber.
