Manufacturing Ultra-Tall Carbon Nanotube Forests

Abstract
This invention allows for the manufacturing ultra-tall (10-30 mm) carbon nanotube forests (arrays) at fast production speeds. Such ultra-tall nanotube forests offer the only pathway to effective utilization of extremely high-strength nanotubes for many important applications from next-generation aerospace structures to personnel armor. The invention uses a unique chemical vapor deposition system that will allow for base-growth of nanotube forests to lengths 10 times greater than are presently possible, while at the same time maintains a fast growth rate.

Application(s)
• Lightweight, high-strength structural
• Lightweight, high-strength mechanical
• Micro-electric motors
• Nanoscale diodes
• Nanoconducting cable

Advantages
• Long-growth potential
• Faster production
• Scalable

IP Status: Available both Exclusively and Non Exclusively

Commercialization Strategy: We are seeking to license this technology either non-exclusively or exclusively for specific field of use. We would also entertain offers to work collaboratively in the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA). Any agreement contract is expected to include funds-in to the Laboratory.
