Thermal Contraction Compensation Mechanism for Cryogenic or Superconducting Power Cables
Abstract
This invention provides a method which allows for expansion and contraction of a high temperature superconducting power cable during cool down to liquid nitrogen temperature and back to room temperature. Without this compensation, the cable would not survive the stress created by the cooling contraction. This techniques applies to cables made with any high temperature superconductor.
