Ordered Nanocomposite Silica Films for Matrix-Free Mass Spectrometry
Abstract
Matrix assisted laser desorption-ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) has made the characterization of molecules and proteins by mass spectrometry a routine method. However, the matrix used to help ionize the samples introduces background ions that make characterization difficult, especially for small molecules. The current invention describes the use of a matrix material that is not ionized with the samples. This new matrix material has significantly improved MALDI-MS for small molecules, is easy to make and is more durable than existing substrates.
Application(s)
- MALDI-MS, especially for smaller molecules
- Proteomics/drug discovery industry
Advantages
- Easy to adopt
- Improved performance
IP Status: Available both Exclusively and Non Exclusively
Commercialization Strategy: We are offering licenses in two categories: (i) an exclusive license to a company that will distribute the bacterial packaging cell lines individually or in kit form and (ii) nonexclusive licenses to companies that will to use the technology in providing services.
Specifie licensing terms and conditions will be negotiated on a case by case basis. For information on our licensing practices see http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/tt/license/.
