Reduced Ac Loss High Temperature Coated Conductor

Abstract
Los Alamos National Laboratory has developed a technique to reduce hysteresis losses in high temperature superconducting coated conductors due to ac transport currents and/or magnetic fields. This technique is achieved without significantly changing the geometry of YBCO coated conductors.

Application(s)
Power cables
Magnetics
Electric motors
Current limiters
Other power engineering equipment

Advantages
Reduces heat within the superconductor Increases the viability of superconductors in power engineering equipment and applications Increased overall efficiency of the conductor
