Since the first football game in 1892, North Carolina State University has competed at the highest level of college athletics, winning two NCAA national championships, two AIAW titles and four other national championships. We’ve also produced Olympic medalists in swimming as well as 26 individual NCAA and AIAW national champions in a variety of sports. NC State competes in 23 intercollegiate varsity sports, and is a founding member and competitor in one of the nation’s premier leagues, the Atlantic Coast Conference

Campus sports and recreation

NC State also provides quality athletic competition and fitness opportunities to the entire campus community through Campus Recreation activities and membership in Carmichael Gymnasium Complex. Campus Recreation helps foster healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership through club sports, intramural sports, fitness/wellness classes, outdoor adventures and more.

  • More than 45 different club sports are available on campus, ranging from aikido and badminton, fencing to roller hockey, cricket, rowing, table tennis, wrestling and more.
  • Intramural sports include basketball, bowling, racquetball, softball, badminton and 4-on-4 flag football, with 18 intramural leagues and special events for players of all skill levels.
  • Fitness & wellness programs encourage healthier lifestyles through classes and workshops that educate, motivate, and stimulate both brain and brawn.
  • Outdoor Adventures sponsors affordable, year-round opportunities for students to get an adrenaline rush backpacking, camping, and rock climbing at recreational areas along the East Coast.
