Course Description - FCAU Fire Chemical Application and Use

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

 

Course Description:  The course provides participants with information on fire chemicals and their use in fire operations, their effects on the environment, and the reporting requirements when fire chemicals are introduced into waterways or other Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) habitat.

The safe, efficient, and cost-effective use of these products is stressed. Safety factors are discussed throughout with an emphasis on alternate tactics and/or tactics to minimize harmful impacts while achieving the fire management goals. The course will use lecture, case studies, exercises, and participant interaction. The course consists of the development of the fire chemical program through the current programs in use, concentrating on the environmental effects and considerations, as well as the safe operational application of retardants and suppressants.
