This database table contains the list of observations which have already been made by the XMM-Newton observatory, as well as those which are scheduled to be made in the near future (usually a a few weeks to a month ahead of the present). It does not contain observations which are scheduled to be performed further in the future (see the ESA XMM-Newton Advanced Observations Plan at http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_sched/advance_plan.shtml for these) nor does it contain accepted observations which have not yet been scheduled. The list of all accepted XMM-Newton observations, including a number of ones which are unlikely to ever be carried out, such as accepted priority C targets, is available in the XMMAO Browse table.
This table includes entries for both pointed data and for data obtained during spacecraft slews. The slew observations all have obsid values beginning with the digit 9 and, because they were not made at a fixed position, lack any positional information such as RA and Declination.
Some XMM-Newton observations for which the archived data has become publicly available as indicated by the public_date parameter value, i.e., the proprietary period has expired, are not currently available at the HEASARC: such cases will have values of 'N' for the data_in_heasarc parameter. These datasets in most cases are available at the ESA XMM-Newton Data Archive at http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/

ObsID
A unique XMM-Newton observation identifier made up of the proposal
number, target number of the proposal, and exposure number of the target.
This table includes entries for both pointed data and for data obtained during

the digit 9 and, because they were not made at a fixed position, lack any
positional information such as RA and Declination.
PNo
The XMM-Newton proposal number to which the observation belongs. Note that
the proposal number is the first six digits of the ObsID number.
Name
The name of the target of the XMM-Newton pointing.
RA
The nominal right ascension of the XMM-Newton pointing, in the requested
equinox. Notice that the originating table contained the position in equinox
J2000 with RA given to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time.
Dec
The nominal declination of the XMM-Newton pointing, in the requested
equinox. Notice that the originating table contained the position in equinox
J2000 with declination given to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds.
LII
The galactic longitude of the XMM-Newton pointing.
BII
The galactic latitude of the XMM-Newton pointing.
Time
The start time of the observation in UTC. Notice that the originating
table gave the start time given to a precision of 0.01 seconds.
End_Time
The end time of the observation in UTC. Notice that the originating
table gave the start time given to a precision of 0.01 seconds.
Duration
The actual observation on-time or duration as determined by the
processing software, in seconds.
Scheduled_Duration
The planned duration for the observation, in seconds. This is the planned
on-target time and includes the time required for instrument setup, which means
that the actual 'science' time available will typically be lower than this.
Estimated_Exposure
The estimated duration for the observation in seconds. This is derived by
checking for the time spent with the filter wheel (the MOS1 camera is taken
as the reference) within the time window planned for the observation.
PI_Title
The title of the Principal Investigator, e.g., 'Dr.'
PI_FName
The first name of the Principal Investigator.
PI_LName
The family name of the Principal Investigator.
SAS_Version
The SAS software version which was used to generate the
Pipeline Processing System (PPS) data products.
PPS_Flag
This is a flag which indicates whether or not the PPS data products
have been generated at the XSA.
ODF_Date
The creation date for the Observation Data Files (ODFs) from the raw telemetry
data. If no date is listed, then this initial processing has not taken place.
Process_Date
The date of the last data processing.
Distribution_Date
The date when the final data products including the
pipeline products and the ODFs were ready for distribution.
Public_Date
The date when the data products will become available to
the public. This date is only approximate and subject to change.
XMM_Revolution
The XMM-Newton revolution number in which the observation
occurred, i.e., the number of 48-hour orbits which had elapsed since the
launch of XMM-Newton up to the date of the observation.
Process_Status
The Pipeline Processing System (PPS) status for the
observation.
MOS1_Num
The number of MOS-1 exposures contained in the observation.
MOS1_Time
The total MOS-1 exposure time (s).
MOS1_Mode
A set of flags indicating the MOS-1 instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
MOS2_Num
The number of MOS-2 exposures contained in the observation.
MOS2_Time
The total MOS-2 exposure time (s).
MOS2_Mode
A set of flags indicating the MOS-2 instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
PN_Num
The number of PN exposures contained in the observation.
PN_Time
The total PN exposure time (s).
PN_Mode
A set of flags indicating the PN instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
RGS1_Num
The number of RGS-1 exposures contained in the observation.
RGS1_Time
The total RGS-1 exposure time (s).
RGS1_Mode
A set of flags indicating the RGS-1 instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
RGS2_Num
The number of RGS-2 exposures contained in the observation.
RGS2_Time
The total RGS-2 exposure time (s).
RGS2_Mode
A set of flags indicating the RGS-2 instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
OM_Num
The number of OM exposures contained in the observation.
OM_Time
The total OM exposure time (s).
OM_Mode
A set of flags indicating the OM instrument modes which
were used for the observation.
Data_In_HEASARC
This flag is set to 'Y' or 'N' to indicate whether or not the dataset is
available in the HEASARC Archive. Some XMM-Newton observations for which the
archived data has become publically available as indicated by the public_date
value being in the past implying that the proprietary period has expired, are
not currently available at the HEASARC. These datasets in most cases are
available at the ESA XMM-Newton Data Archive at http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/
Subject_Category
The broad classification of the target as indicated by
the Principal Investigator to whom this target was awarded:
AGN, QSOs, BL-Lacs, and XRB Groups, Clusters and Superclusters of Galaxies Galaxies and Galactic Surveys Stars, White Dwarf and Solar System Supernovae, Supernova Remnants, Diffuse Emission White Dwarf Binaries, Neutron Star Binaries X-ray Background and Surveys
Status
The present status of the observation: scheduled, observed,
processed, or archived.
Class
The Browse object classification.
