Ramapo College of New Jersey Listed by Kiplinger’s as One of 100 Best Values in Public Colleges
Ramapo College of New Jersey is listed in the December 2008 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine as among the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for 2009.  This is the fourth consecutive year Ramapo College has been included in the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.”  The college was ranked #66 in the country, and one of two colleges in New Jersey in the Top 100. “This recognition from Kiplinger’s confirms the national reputation that Ramapo College of New Jersey maintains for providing a tremendous value in higher education,” said Ricardo Ortegon, associate vice president for Enrollment Management.  “Today, more than ever, the benefits of a liberal arts education – the ability to think and analyze critically and to communicate clearly – are the foundations for a successful career.”

Ramapo College will Present “Messages from Ghana,” Paintings by Kwaku Kissiedu
“Messages from Ghana,” an exhibit of recent paintings by Kwaku Kissiedu, a Ghanaian artist with a growing international reputation, will be on view in the Pascal Gallery in the Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts from February 5 through March 6. Kissiedu will be a 2009 Schomburg Artist in Residence for two weeks, coinciding with Ramapo College’s observance of African Ancestry Month.  The Schomburg Fellowship is sponsored by the College’s Minority Faculty Staff Association. In addition to showing and discussing his work, the artist will present a lecture, “The History of Contemporary Art in Ghana” Wednesday, February 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Room B-224. The lecture is free and open to the public.

“Continuing Threads and New Voices,” an Exhibit by Adjunct Visual Arts Professors, on view at Ramapo College
An exhibit of works by adjunct professors of visual arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey will be on view in the Kresge and Pascal Galleries in the Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts from February 5 through March 6. The exhibit will feature an eclectic mix of media including paintings, photographs, ceramic sculpture, inkjet prints and installations.  All of the artists are adjunct professors at Ramapo College. A preview reception will be held Wednesday, February 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.  An artist’s talk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Legendary Judy Collins Graces the Stage at Ramapo College
The legendary Judy Collins will give two performances at Ramapo College of New Jersey on February 7 at 4 and 8 p.m. Few singers have had the staying power of this folk icon.  For nearly 45 years, her dulcet tones have moved audiences and her poetic lyrics have galvanized a generation.  She has released more than 40 albums, has had numerous Top 10 hits, Grammy nominations and gold- and platinum-selling albums.  She returns to the Berrie Center for a performance that will light up the stage and warm up the winter season.

Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner to Benefit Ramapo College Students, Capital Projects and Faculty
The Ramapo College Foundation has announced the recipients of its 27th Annual Distinguished Citizens Award.  The honorees will be recognized for their personal and professional commitment to advance higher education and for their significant service to the community at a dinner on March 7, 2009 at the Rockleigh Country Club. The honorees are David Alai of Rutherford, corporate vice president for Sharp Electronics in Mahwah, New Jersey, a member of the board of directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey and a governor on the Ramapo College Foundation board; Marion Dugan ’80, formerly of Mahwah and currently in Garrison, New York, founder, along with her husband, Pat, of Charity Navigator; John R. Smith of Tenafly, director of corporate responsibility for Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) and president of its Foundation, and Anthony J. Marino of Cedar Grove, CEO of Century 21 Construction, which he founded in 1968.

Les Yeux Noirs will Present Gypsy and Klezmer Music at Ramapo College
The rhythmic sounds of Les Yeux Noirs – The Black Eyes – will be presented at Ramapo College of New Jersey in January. Les Yeux Noirs, a Paris-based octet, will perform in a return engagement in the Sharp Theater on the campus of Ramapo College on Sunday, January 25.  For twelve years, Les Yeux Noirs have been carving their own path down the road of Yiddish and Gypsy music, supported by a growing audience.  Both joyous and nostalgic, this nomadic music perfectly reflects the lives of a persecuted people in exile, caught up in a massive Diaspora, all with an unshakeable will to live.

U.S. NEWS Ranks Ramapo College Among the Best in the North
In the 2009 edition of “America’s Best Colleges,” released by U.S. News & World Report, Ramapo College was ranked number 5 in the north in the Top Public Universities-Master’s category. This is the second year the college received the distinction. In addition, Ramapo College climbed the ranking ladder to number 29, up from 32, in U.S. News’s comprehensive listing of Best Universities-Master’s in the north.

Ramapo College of New Jersey is one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast according to The Princeton Review. The New York City-based education services company selected the school as one of 212 institutions it recommends in its “Best in the Northeast” section on its PrincetonReview.com feature 2009 Best Colleges Region by Region. It also profiles the school in its book,” The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2009 Edition.”
