High-Speed Electronic Laboratory (HSEL)

Facility Description

The HSEL was established to support Department of Energy defense programs. Services available at the HSEL include electronics instrumentation engineering, network analysis equipment, time-domain reflectometry, and high-speed metrology. The HSEL is also the custodian of the 50, 100, and 200 picosecond internatinal time standards. The facility's runs a pulse standard certification program for outside users.

The HSEL facilities comprise over 1,200 square feet of laboratory and office space. Services enable users to perform their research activities under optimal conditions and to interact with our facility's experienced staff.

Equipment

  • ultra-fast (up to 26.5 GHz) vector network analyzers,
  • spectrum analyzers (up to 50 GHz),
  • time domain monitors (to within 7 ps),
  • time interval meters (to within 0.1 ps),
  • transient time domain monitors (to within 45 ps), and
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) time duration standards.
