The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI), in conjunction
with AmeriCorps, ESD112 and ServeIdaho, strives to increase volunteerism
and community service in the Inland Northwest.
When you choose to participate in the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental
Institute's AmeriCorps Placement Program, you become part of a
nationwide family of AmeriCorps members, community volunteers, and
agencies that are called to action. The PCEI AmeriCorps Placement
program specifically addresses conservation and environmental education
needs in our communities.

Our program is unique. Let us tell you why.
What is AmeriCorps?
Begun in 1994, the AmeriCorps programs provide opportunities for
Americans to make an intensive commitment to service. The AmeriCorps
network of local, state, and national service programs engages more
than 70,000 Americans in intensive service each year.
AmeriCorps members serve through more than 3,000 nonprofits, public
agencies,and faith-based and other community organizations, helping
meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the
environment. The variety of service opportunities is almost
unlimited.
Members may tutor and mentor youth, build affordable housing, teach
computer skills, clean parks and streams, run after-school programs,
or
help communities respond to disasters.

Where does AmeriCorps-PCEI fit in?
The PCEI AmeriCorps Placement Program funds AmeriCorps members through
2 grants under AmeriCorps State and National. One branch of our
AmeriCorps program is funded as sub-grantees of ESD112. This funding allows us to
place 25 full-time individual placement and 22 field team AmeriCorps
members at non-profit and government agencies throughout Idaho and
Eastern Washington. The other branch of our program is funded as
sub-grantees of Serve Idaho.
This grant allows us to manage 15 Americorps members in the Mobile
Environmental Education Corps and 45 individuals in the Education Award
Program.
What is the difference between the programs we offer?
There are four different programs hosted by PCEI's AmeriCorps Placement
Program for individuals and organizations to get involved in.
Individual
Placement
Individual placements, or IPs, serve at least 900 or 1700 hours of
service during their year long or seasonal term.
They are placed with schools, community-based organizations or
government agencies to address critical community and environmental
needs. In addition, IPs complete up
to 300 hours of development and training with the
Palouse-Clearwater
Center and on their own.
Mobile Environmental
Education Corps
One of the most innovative AmeriCorps programs in the state, Mobile
Environmental Education Corps (MEEC) positions immerse members in
an
amazing 12 month experience. Individuals in this program spend nine
intense months receiving training in environmental education and
leadership development all the while providing the students of Idaho
with exciting standards based science education. Following this
training and teaching, the members apply these skills at non-profits
and government agencies in Idaho.
Education Award
Program
The Education Award Program (EAP) is a free volunteer incentive program
that can help organizations keep committed volunteers with their
organization. The program also rewards existing volunteers for making
a commitment of at least 300 hours/year with a $1000-$1800 education
award.
Field Teams
Field teams serve with the Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) in
their Leadership
Development Program. Groups of approximately 10 members serve
together for their entire term of service in the back country of
Arizona, Idaho and/or Washington State. The Leadership Development
Program (LDP) integrates team-based work projects, education, and
on-site technical training into a curriculum that emphasizes leadership
growth, and the development of conservation work skills.
