Music

The Music Department at Dordt College seeks to train young musicians for lives of God-glorifying service as competent and insightful performers, educators, and church musicians.

Student Singing

Approximately 1300 students from over 30 states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 13 other foreign countries attend Dordt College. 20 are listed as Music Majors and over 300 students are members of the ensembles and take private music lessons.

During the past 40 years, graduates from Dordt have distinguished themselves as graduate students in the finest conservatories and universities and as successful music educators and church musicians.

Indeed, when it comes to providing an outstanding music education at a Christian liberal arts college, the Dordt College Music Department may be one of mid-America’s best-kept secrets.

Outstanding Resources!

An exceptional faculty of four full-time and eighteen adjunct professors provide exceptional instruction to both majors and non-majors. Organ and Piano

The instrumental and vocal ensembles at Dordt College have built a reputation for exciting and innovative performances with yearly tours throughout the United States and Canada.

Three organs--including one of the largest Casavant organs in the Midwest--provide church music and organ performance majors with instruments that are second to none, while a large collection of pianos, including a Disklavier and a Clavinova piano lab, serve piano students.

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra also provides advanced students with a valuable ensemble for their pre-professional training. Many of Dordt’s adjunct faculty perform as principal players in the orchestra.

Outstanding Opportunities!

Music majors and non-majors participate in wide variety of small ensemble, community, Saxaphone Player and church performances in addition to those provided by Dordt ensembles. Many Dordt students provide area school children with private lessons and several churches rely on the professional services of Dordt College organ students and choir directors.

If you are a gifted high school student and are serious about putting your musical talents to work in college, be sure to consult Dordt’s scholarship possibilities.
