Labor Department Co-Sponsors National Workforce Innovations 2003 Conference
WASHINGTON - Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao will give opening remarks Tuesday, July 8, at Workforce Innovations 2003, the nation's premier workforce conference. Held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C., the conference runs through July 10.
In addition to the opening plenary, two additional plenary sessions will deal with Emerging Industry Sectors and Business Partnership with the Public Workforce System. Super Sessions and workshops will address a myriad of topics including careers in such industries as information technology, biotechnology, geospatial technology, retail and healthcare; apprenticeship in cooperation with post-secondary education; incumbent learners and the continuum of learning; the impact on youth of a reauthorized Workforce Investment Act; employment alternatives for people with disabilities; faith-based initiatives; expanding opportunities for the Hispanic workforce, and rural workforce strategies.
Co-sponsored by the Labor Department's Employment and Training Administration and the National Association of Workforce Boards, the conference targets information to workforce professionals, business and industry leaders, and federal, state and local government officials.
