Labor Department Awards $17 Million Through Work Incentive Grant Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today awarded grants totaling $17 million to 42 organizations to enhance the employment and career advancement of people with disabilities through services available at One-Stop Career Centers.

"The President has placed a priority on recognizing the untapped employment potential of Americans with disabilities, and the need to expand job opportunities available to them," said Chao. "These grants totaling $17 million will help make that possible by giving people with disabilities access to services at their community-based One-Stop Centers so they can launch successful working careers."

The Work Incentive Grants will allow 42 organizations around the country to meet the specific needs of people with disabilities through collaboration with local One-Stop Career Centers. In many instances, the grantees will provide supportive services not currently provided through the One-Stop delivery system.

Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco said, "These grants will help make our new One-Stop delivery system more accessible to people with disabilities, ensuring every American worker has the tools necessary to be a successful part of the 21st century workforce."

The grants serve organizations for people with disabilities for 30 months.
