U.S. Labor Department Hosts Health Care Industry Executive Forum In Albuquerque
Forum Will Help Plan Strategy to Fill Jobs in High Growth Industry

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco will address worker shortages in the health-care industry by leading an executive forum in Albuquerque on Aug. 4.

DeRocco will open a dialogue with approximately 125 members of the American Health Care Association to hear directly from health-care executives about their workforce needs, and solicit their recommendations for how to address worker shortages.

The assistant secretary's information-gathering mission is part of the Bush Administration's High Growth Job Training Initiative, a major effort to improve the public workforce system's responsiveness to labor market needs.

"This Administration understands how important it is to give employers the skilled workers they need, and to give workers the opportunity to succeed in jobs with a prosperous future," said DeRocco. "That's why this forum is so important. It's an opportunity to listen to employers, hear what's needed, and work with them to make sure that workers are trained for jobs that employers need to fill."

As part of the High Growth Job Training Initiative, the Labor Department conducts extensive industry research to identify expanding industries, convenes forums with executives and human resource professionals to determine workforce gaps in the industry, and, in partnership with employers, educational institutions and workforce leaders, develops a plan to address business needs.

This is the third in a series of Health Care Executive Forums conducted by the department's Employment and Training Administration to address the growing human resource crisis in the industry. The forum with the American Health Care Association, which represents long-term health-care providers, will be held at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North, 5151 San Francisco Rd., N.E., from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
