Labor Department Awards $2.1 Million to Missouri Incutech Foundation For High-Tech Training

ROLLA, Mo. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment & Training Administration has awarded $2.1 million to the Missouri Incutech Foundation to train 200 incumbent workers and 50 unemployed workers in the advanced manufacturing field.

"This Administration is committed to helping workers get the training they need to get good paying jobs," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "This $2.1 million grant will be used to upgrade the skills of workers."

Rolla-based Missouri Incutech Foundation will use the Labor Department grant to upgrade the skills of workers by providing certificates in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Business Leadership. Training will consist of both classroom and on-the-job work. Certificates will be issued upon passing a four hour comprehensive exam. Upon completion of all three certificates, participants will be eligible for the Advanced Manufacturing Specialist Certification.

The project expects to raise average income of incumbent participants from $45,000 to $60,000 a year. Partnering employers have committed to providing $2.1 million in the form of paid time for employees to attend training and matching funds.

"This grant illustrates the kind of workforce development partnerships we are encouraging to address the challenges facing 21st century businesses," said Emily Stover DeRocco, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. "When businesses identify the skills their workforce needs, educators and our public workforce system can be key players in preparing workers for the highly skilled jobs in high-demand fields."

This grant and others totaling approximately $49 million were awarded competitively to business-led partnerships nationwide to train workers for high-skill, high-tech occupations.
