In May, 1955, a ceremony was held on the campus of Dordt College to lay the cornerstone to Dordt's first building. The cornerstone is a sandstone block located on the southwest corner of the classroom building, the original main entrance to the college. On the side of the cornerstone is inscribed Dordt College's motto: Soli Deo Gloria (to God alone be the glory). Inside the cornerstone were placed the following documents:
These documents were placed back into the cornerstone, along with some additional new ones, during the Jubilee celebrations.
