The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Tennessee at Martin is part of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The department provides degree programs for the mathematics major, and offers minors in both statistics and mathematics.
Our department consists of a diverse and creative faculty dedicated to teaching, technology and research. Faculty are active in supporting a mathematics club, a mathematics colloquium, and a mathematics laboratory for students. All faculty are involved in using computerized resources. Some, at the forefront of calculator technology, offer seminars in their use, while other members are involved in exploring the Internet, html and Java as tools for teaching and learning.
Many faculty members are actively involved in new research. Examples of areas of interest include n-color Frobenius partitions, the discovery and distribution of primes, realcompact sets, orbifolds, visualization using spreadsheets statistical consulting, and ranking & selection procedures.
